Mirte Jepma
I am a researcher, feminist and housing activist based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I hold a BA in Politics, Psychology, Law & Economics and a Research Master Urban Studies, both at the University of Amsterdam. My academic interest and activist commitments are related to housing and inequality. My previous research has focused on self-organisation and the practice of commoning in relation to housing.
Project
My research in the context of the Property and Democratic Citizenship project examines the social impact of Dutch social housing policies in light of current practices of dispossession and demolition. Concretely, I examine what justifications are given for demolition by policymakers and housing corporations, and what impact these urban renewal projects have on the social fabric of the city. It uncovers the social injustices of urban renovation for the current residents.
